A series of debates between the president and Congressman Paul would be good ones. It would be respectful and focus on the issues.

But sadly, it seems that the Republican party wants to offer up one or the other religious kook. It's sad, because the country would benefit from a spirited insightful debate.

In that regard, the country is at the same point it was in the fall of 1963. That's when Barry Goldwater was being courted as the Republican nominee for president; and he looked forward to debating his friend, Jack Kennedy, President Kennedy. They'd talked about using the same airplane, to travel the country; offering a series of debates similar to that of the Lincoln-Douglas debates of the 19th century.

Sadly, a shooter murdered the president and ended that plan. Now, the press, the media stands ready to do something similar by ensuring that the kooky Mrs. Bachmann is the nominee - well, the press and the religious fanatics who have seemingly taken over the Republican party.
