It would be respectful and focus on the issues.<br /><br />But sadly, it seems that the Republican party wants to offer up one or the other religious kook. It's sad, because the country would benefit from a spirited insightful debate. <br /><br />In that regard, the country is at the same point it was in the fall of 1963. That's when Barry Goldwater was being courted as the Republican nominee for president; and he looked forward to debating his friend, Jack Kennedy, President Kennedy. They'd talked about using the same airplane, to travel the country; offering a series of debates similar to that of the Lincoln-Douglas debates of the 19th century.<br /><br />Sadly, a shooter murdered the president and ended that plan. Now, the press, the media stands ready to do something similar by ensuring that the kooky Mrs. Bachmann is the nominee - well, the press and the religious fanatics who have seemingly taken over the Republican party.Terry Parkhursthttp://automatter.typepad.com/my_weblog/noreply@blogger.com
