A few questions occur. How many of those folks have been following the debt ceiling debate or care at all who 'won' it? How many of them are represented by Republicans in Congress? How many of them voted in 2010? How many more voted in 2008? How do we get 'em to the polls in 2012?

We need some answers in pretty short order.

When it's peach pickin' time in Georgia...

After enacting House Bill 87, a law designed to drive illegal immigrants out of Georgia, state officials appear shocked to discover that HB 87 is, well, driving a lot of illegal immigrants out of Georgia.

...Thanks to the resulting labor shortage, Georgia farmers have been forced to leave millions of dollars' worth of blueberries, onions, melons and other crops unharvested and rotting in the fields. It has also put state officials into something of a panic at the damage they've done to Georgia's largest industry.

You don't have to be a Boy Scout...

...to do a good deed. Janet reminds us that there's still time to put a bag of cans and dry goods out by the mailbox today for the letter carriers' food bank drive. Take it from a former food bank director - this one matters. It's a lot of extra work for the postal workers, but the results are well worth the effort and I'm sure that they won't mind if you make their load a few cans heavier.

Some 691,000 children went hungry in America sometime in 2007, while close to one in eight Americans struggled to feed themselves adequately even before this year's sharp economic downtown, the Agriculture Department reported Monday.

It's a disgrace, and it's dangerous. Food security is national security.
