From the "Si Se Puede!" file.

Via CNN...
The U.S. Navy has named one of its newest ships after Mexican-American labor organizer Cesar Chavez, officials said Wednesday.
Maybe it's my age showing, but damn, ain't that something?

In Austin, there's a Cesar Chavez Boulevard. When yours truly visited there, in November of 1997, I marvelled at that; however, a woman who lived there told me that some businesses relocated, or took their addresses off of side streets, in order to avoid putting Cesar Chavez Boulevard on their stationary.

It's been a while, and so, maybe even those businesses have made peace with the deal.

Speaking of peace, given that Cesar Chavez was a man of that, it seems ironic that a Navy ship is named after him. Of course, these days, the Navy's main mission seems to be keeping the sea lanes open, rather than recreating the battle of Midway (with the occasional off-beat event such as eliminating OBL). Let's hope it stays that way.
