Poverty seriously sucks.

It seems to suck even harder when you work your butt off at a job everyone tells you you're good at and you still don't make enough to pay your bills.

I'll wake up tomorrow without bus fare to get to work or the two or three bucks I need to get a tube of denture adhesive that makes it possible to do little things like eat and talk.

Rent? Not even on the map at this point. When the phone or power goes, so does the blog, I guess. Peter's already been robbed to pay Paul - taking out the draw that paid last months rent meant my last paycheck didn't cover my overdraft, and the way charges pile up, the next one probably won't either.

Holidays? You've got to be kidding.

I've been broke before, and that's not so bad. This is different. There's a kind of hopelessness that's new to me.

Blegging doesn't seem to work. Working doesn't seem to work. I'm not particularly cut out for a life of crime, but it's something I've pondered. Maybe I'll hit the Lotto if I ever scare up the price of a ticket.

Sorry about the rant, but I'm pretty near wits end.

Or a bit past, maybe...

I know how you feel. I don't even think about what will happen when the car needs repairing because it won't get done. Everyone else seems to be so much better off too.

Don't they, though. I spend too many hours around people who can still eat out or spend $$$ on drinks in a bar, but thank God for 'em or I'd be in a deeper fix. I really don't need to hear about their holiday trips or that really nice present they just wrapped up for someone, though, unless its a five pound box of hundred dollar bills for me.

Thanks for listening, Anji.

We've got to figure out a better way to make money as bloggers. I'm also feeling the pangs of car troubles (my 20 year old beater finally died and I had to replace it with a 9 year old beater), so I couldn't chip in as much as I'd like, but enjoy a few days' bus tickets. I'll also put up a link at HA.

Donation made. Sorry it was a bit late for Hanukkah, and I wish I had more to offer in your time of need, but Chag Sameach! anyway.

Thanks, guys. Carl, I'm humbled by your comments at HA and, of course, grateful for your donation.

And a tardy Chag Sameach to you, too, N. And grateful thanks.

You might want to call AARP WorkSearch, (206) 624-6698, Shaun. They work to get a person a part-time job at a non-profit, for 20 hours a week at minimum wage. That allows one to continue to look for better paying work. You have to provide your own leads for the latter.

It's a program that has been helping me (barely) survive. Blogging is good to raise a person's profile with potential employers. I meet a guy named Michael, Tuesday night, who produces MyLocalHealthGuide.com, and he told me that the only blog he knows of that is making a living for its creators, is the West Seattle community blog. He suggested creating advertising for my blog that would include coupons people could print out; don't think that is something I'll pursue.

There's advertising at my blog but the amount earned is literally pennies. I've heard advertising called "welfare for webmasters" by a cartoonist whose blog makes money by selling shirts and other such items; related to his cartoons (can't recall his name).

Like you, I'm trying to see light at the end of a long tunnel. Sometimes, it takes a bus load of faith to get by.

Hi, my name's "Steve" and I'm a regular over at HA where your situation came to my attention. I just sent you a small donation through PayPal. I had heard of your blog but hadn't dropped by before. But now that I've visited, I'll be sure to come back and see what you're up to. Hang in there.

Thanks all, and welcome to Upper Left, Steve. Thanks to you and the others who've chipped in I'm starting to get a little financial toehold and a much larger emotional one.

It's really impossible to express my gratitude to y'all.
