Rand Paul screwed the pooch by saying the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a mistake.
Barry Goldwater, in the bio he co-authored with Jack Casserly, wrote that he had the same take on that piece of legislation as does Rand Paul. He also wrote that it was the biggest mistake of his life.
As the late politician and photographer matured and grew, he learned that civil rights trumped property rights - especially in places open to the public. It's one reason he came to champion the civil rights of gays and lesbians.
Maybe Rand Paul can look at his campaign as a learning experience. If not, he's likely going to lose and big.
