Consistency, it's said...

...is the hobgoblin of little minds. Which is to say, my general and well documented disdain for the initiative process and the knee-jerk no that goes with it is crumbling in the face of the prospect for a high-income income tax. The Gates, Sr. proposal may be the first petition I've signed in for-practically-ever.

In other news, looks like a trip to the computer fixit guys is finally in the offing for tomorrow. Off I go, fingers crossed...

Between that and 1068, I'll sign 2 initiatives this year. I can only think of 2 initiatives I've signed since I've been eligible to vote. And one was Goldy's joke initiative. Anyway, good luck with your computer.

Don't fall for it Shaun. They start with $200K and the next thing you know the rich have found loopholes while those of us in the middle get stuck with the bill. I've seen this happen in Mass. and Pa. seriously.

The Humane Society had two initiatives I worked on, back in 1996 and 2000; one to ban the use of dogs to hunt cougars and the other to stop the use of leg traps. Most people working on those were volunteers.

The initiative process infuriates some; but it allows people who aren't lobbyists a voice.

Thing is, unless you're paid to gather the signatures, making a living is going to limit what a person can do. Getting friends and relatives to sign, and doing some work at street fairs or such, is going to be the limit of involvement for most of us.

But maybe that's not a bad thing. Politics is really only a part of life - for most of us.
