It's time for...

Next week we'll wrap up 52 weeks of advice from the legendary Democrat, Adlai Stevenson. Who's next? I've got some ideas, but once again, I'd like to hear who you'd like to hear from. It has to be someone who is or was identifiably a Democrat who wrote or spoke memorably enough for a pretty high volume of preserved quotations. Wit counts, as does thematic timelessness. Who ya' got in mind?

Who better than Molly? She'd be good for several years. Well, a lifetime. I miss her greatly.

Al Smith? He turned against FDR at the end but I bet there are quite a few quotes from his run for President and time as governor.

I think N in Seattle suggested Eleanor Roosevelt last time, and it's still solid.

It might be good to do Ted Kennedy for some inspiration if it's not too soon.

Hey Shaun,
How about Howard Dean? Or Eleanor Roosevelt?

Carl, I thought I was the one touting Adlai last year. But I could be wrong.

Eleanor would be a good choice, as would her husband.

I don't recall whether you've used Paul Wellstone, Shaun. Dean's "Democratic wing of the Democratic Party" line originated with Wellstone.

Buncha good ones, folks! Some already on my list, but a couple of new contenders, too.

I recall you boosting Adlai too, Neil, but there may have been more than one name on your list. Once again we're thinking alike - Paul started out in my top 3, and he's still there. The other two have changed because of this thread, though.

And a reminder - before Adlai we had Sam Rayburn, William Jennings Bryan and Lyndon Johnson.
