From the "Since you asked…" file.

Niki Reading at The Capitol Record wonders...
Should Supreme Court races be publicly funded?
Since you asked, absolutely, if Justices have to be elected at all. The funding question's easy. The election question I'm not so sure about.

Hard to imagine the voters voting to take away their right to vote, though, so we're probably stuck with the elections.

So, sure, public funding. Absolutely.

Since the major cost of campaigns seems to be broadcast media buys; and the air waves used by broadcasters are owned by the people (and licensed by their representatives in the Federal Government); why not make free political time & ads (with production services from the station) for all candidates a condition of broadcast licenses? Explicit formulas for parceling the time can satisfy first amendment needs while lessening the impact of money on the process.
'course, that would be rational. That scares a lot of folks.

That was my idea that I had a while back but you know the corporations and the rethugs will have nothing to do with it.

Yep. It is an old idea I first encountered thirty or so years ago. But it's like so much of our pirate culture: the common wealth is perverted into the common theft.

"To save one life is like saving the whole world!"

Please take a few moments and help save the life of Martin Grossman

We need your help today to save the life of Martin Grossman who is set to be executed on February 16th. We are only advocating that he not get the death penalty at this time. We are asking that the Governor take the time to hold a proper clemency hearing to determine if the Death Penalty is really appropriate in this case. This may not be easy for you to go out of your way to try and save the life of someone who took someone else’s life but we must do what is just and right and what the Bible teaches us is correct.
