Dick Cheney is trying to cover up the fact that he, and the last president, did more to make the United States itself a target, than perhaps any preceding administration. How this man can make the assertions he makes, while expecting us to forget that September 11, 2001 occurred on his watch, is amazing. The word the CIA uses is "blowback," a term that was brought up, during some GOP debates in 2008, by Congressman Ron Paul (who also took grief from people such as Cheney).
Of course, the American people never have had a great attention span; and these days, it is even more limited, thanks to a variety of technical changes in how information is acquired and processed. But this time, old Cheney might have overstepped himself.
Thanks, Anon.
I don't think Cheney's really capable of overstepping himself, Terry. He's speaking to a narrow target who are condiditoned to nod and agree with whatever he says, and the media seems pretty committed to serving up his lies to that target. The combination seems to make him not necessarily immune to criticism, but numb to it's impact, at least.
