Whatever you may have heard...

...it didn't come from ABC News...
At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as "tens of thousands."

Given how infrequently anyone goes to Washington D.C., to express an opinion these days, who is not a paid lobbyist, that's still impressive.

Most Americans remain more interested in who has replaced Paula Abdul on "American Idol" - we all now who it is now, if only by osmosis - or the now early start of the football season; than in whatever Congress is doing, or even the president.

If you doubt that, just try starting up a conversation about politics in most any coffee shop in Seattle, these days. That is, if you can get people to look up from their laptops, long enough.

Shaun, that Tully's where I met you at, is a prime example of that. We can thank "free Wi-Fi" for that.
