Maria's gained enough stature in the caucus to be dubbed point person on energy independence for Senate Democrats, the issue whose resolution is required for any real economic or security progress for our country. She's been solid on veteran's issues, a leader on ANWR, a stalwart on any number of issues important to Democrats in the upper left.

Vigilance, of course, is required. The GOP mud will flow like rivers next year. It'll get messy, and in politics, messy means expensive. It's never too early to toss the Senator a few campaign bucks...
