As corporations grew to become multinationals, that's when the problems started. It led to what's called "outsourcing" and the idea of creating work for the people where the companies originated was lost - for the most part. Creating some jobs at home base, was necessary to keep the corporate tax rates as they were, even when BushCo was in office.
That's the primary reason that when President Obama asked the head of General Electric to be the "job czar," it was a sign that those who placed their hopes and dreams with the president, had been misled; perhaps even conned.
