I didn't have to watch tonight to say…
…what digby said.
Ok, I've seen enough of Rick Perry to know that he's a uniquely vicious and ignorant piece of work who cannot be trusted with the executive branch.Heck, I didn't have to see him twice to say that.

Maybe Rick Perry is less ignorant and more cunning. He's expropriated arguments against the Federal Reserve that had been espoused by Congressman Ron Paul, in his book "End The Fed," and then put a little Texas redneck spin on it to fire up his supporters and potential supporters.
He's been compared to George W. Bush; but he's actually reminiscent of another politician, the late populist, the late George Wallace.
George Wallace, like Governor Perry, had a unique propensity to take really complex problems and convince an audience that there was a really simple solution to them. Coincidentally, the several times governor of Missisippi started out as a Democrat as did Governor Perry.
Rick Perry's ability to convince the country that he's something other than a conman will depend upon how well what used to be called "the press" does its job. Of course, there's also the possibility that if he's attacked by hoardes of journalists, it will elevate his standing as it did the self-annointed "Grizzly mom."
These are strange times in which demagogues are riding high, thanks to the elevation of electronic media over the printed word.
