It is what it is.

Navy Cmdr. Danny Hernandez, on Illinois Republican and Navy Reservist Mark Kirk's "deployments" to Afghanistan...
"I would think that would be (considered) two weeks of annual training. A deployment is a deployment and annual training is annual training."
I guess they didn't tell Kirk that war stories are for the barroom and bedroom, not the campaign trail.

It's like during the campaign, when Palin counted her 2-hour Ireland layover as a foreign visit credential.

Once labeled "embelishing the resume," it is as it has always been, a lie. Politicians, on both sides of the aisle, have done this.

Commie chaser Joe McCarthy was "tailgunner Joe." It allowed him to go on his witch hunts but caught up with him, as most compulsive liars find out. His greatest lie got him; that of refusing to acknowledge his own alcoholism.

Lyndon Johnson similarly lied about his war record, using it to ride all the way to the White House as second-in-command; and assume the reins of power, when a president was murdered.

The president from whom LBJ secured power - Jack Kennedy - was someone whose war record was straight up and worthy of mention.

A president who war record was similarly heroic, but kept that fact hidden, was Gerald Ford. As a Navy lieutenant, he was in command of a group of men who put out a fire, below decks, on an aircraft carrier during WWII. It wasn't reported much, save for an Op-ed piece in the New York Times, after he had passed away.

If the American people had been allowed to see John Kerry become president by the GOP who ran the 2004 election in the state of Ohio, we'd had another president with the war record of a true hero.
