Yet another reason…

…that the right way in Afghanistan is out. Via Juan Cole
For the first time in two years, the percentage of Americans who said that the war was worth fighting fell below 50, all the way down to 47. Only 31 percent felt strongly about it being worth fighting.
Meanwhile, six more American lives have been lost pursuing a mission unworthy of their service and sacrifice.

Damn.

But your hero Barack H. Obama wants to stay in Afghanistan. What's up with that? Is the left having buyer's remorse? LOL.

Hardly my hero, John. Heck, Barry wasn't in my top 3 in the winter of '08. His escalation in Afghanistan is wrong, as I've said from its inception. Unlike conservatives, we liberals don't feel compelled to venerate transitory political figures, at least not prematurely.

Apparently, he isn't a regular reader of this blog. I remember your early support for John Edwards, Shaun; as well as you and I disagreeing when I said that Barack Obama seemed to have the charisma that John F. Kennedy Sr. had. It wasn't that I was endorsing him as much as noting that he had the speaking skills and intellect, to go all the way to the White House. But believe me, I was as "blown away" (as they used to say in the 1960s) as anyone, when he did precisely that - an amazing rise to power and public office.

Your comeback was particularly thoughtful, and something it seems that many so-called "conservatives" might have agreed with (later on). You noted all that JFK Sr. had done by the time he ran for office - served as a Naval officer during WWII, was one relevant thing - while Barack Obama had a much thinner resume.

But that all said, I think the president is perhaps correct to allow our troops to stay in Afghanistan, during the election process. That might be why so many of our people have been dying, of late. The Taliban doesn't want a free election.

Of course, if whomever wins the election, is murdered by the Taliban, we'd have a situation very similar to when Diem was murdered, in early November of 1963.

For those too young, or too uninterested in history to remember, President Diem was once head of a country called South Vietnam.
